New Podcast: Real Codependency Stories – Sarah

  • Post author:

Welcome to another episode of Codependency stories by Dr Nicholas Jenner.

Today, we meet Sarah who recounts, in her words, her 15-year relationship from hell. Listen as Sarah document how her codependency transformed her from a young, dynamic career woman to someone whose only focus was to justify her existence to her extremely abusive and controlling partner. Listen to how codependency left her unable to see anything but her abuser’s needs and how he shockingly physically, emotionally and verbally abused her. Sarah’s story is one of despair but also one of hope as you hear how she finally found true courage to leave the relationship and keep her abuser out of her life despite him making her life difficult. Her road to recovery has lead her to a loving new relationship.

Please remember that you should never accept abuse or control in any kind of relationship. If you are in this type of relationship, seek help from a local crisis line or licensed professional. Never protect your abuser by hiding the abuse or taking responsibility for it. If you need more information concerning what an abusive relationship might look like and what you can expect from a good relationship, please read the various articles about codependency, relationships and narcissism on my blogs:

Finally, a word on language. You will hear the word “narcissist” being used to describe an abusive partner. This describes Sarah’s experience but please remember that the word “narcissist” can only be used for someone diagnosed with NPD by a qualified professional. Now to Sarah’s story…
