Codependency is not a “personality flaw”. It is a learned relational strategy often built in environments where safety, approval, or stability depended on anticipating others, suppressing needs, and managing conflict. Over time, this can lead to chronic anxiety, people-pleasing, over-functioning, difficulty saying no, repeated unhealthy relationships, and a loss of personal direction. Recovery is possible, but it is rarely helped by willpower alone. It requires insight, regulation, and repeated practice in healthier relating.

Group therapy is uniquely effective for codependency because it addresses the problem where it lives: in relationships. Individual therapy can build clarity and understanding, but a well-run clinical group provides something different, real-time interpersonal learning. In group, patterns become visible and workable: rescuing, withdrawing, over-explaining, appeasing, controlling, self-silencing. With careful facilitation, members learn to notice triggers, regulate the nervous system, tolerate discomfort without collapsing into compliance, and practise boundaries in a supported setting.

This programme is a structured, clinically-led group focused on practical change. Sessions include psychoeducation, guided reflection, skills training, and supervised practice. Key themes include: recognising codependent cycles, rebuilding self-trust, identifying “old alarms” versus present reality, reducing compulsive reassurance-seeking, managing guilt and fear of disapproval, and developing stable personal autonomy. You will also learn how to communicate needs directly, set limits without aggression, and make decisions from adult values rather than survival strategies.

The group is delivered securely via Zoom. Confidentiality and psychological safety are central. This is an active therapy space, not a casual support chat and it is designed for adults who recognise codependency patterns and are ready to work on them consistently.

Dr Nicholas Jenner

Dr. Nicholas Jenner, a therapist, coach, and speaker, has over 20 years of experience in the field of therapy and coaching. His specialty lies in treating codependency, a condition that is often characterized by a compulsive dependence on a partner, friend, or family member for emotional or psychological sustenance. Dr. Jenner's approach to treating codependency involves using Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, a treatment method that has gained widespread popularity in recent years. He identifies the underlying causes of codependent behavior by exploring his patients' internal "parts," or their different emotional states, to develop strategies to break free from it. Dr. Jenner has authored numerous works on the topic and offers online therapy services to assist individuals in developing healthy relationships and achieving emotional independence.
