EP#11: How to Begin Parts Work for Codependency
In the course of a day, many of us may think, for example “a part of me wants to do this and yet, at the same time, another part of me wants just the opposite”. Sometimes, this is felt as an inner conflict or “stuckness”. Usually, we simply notice this conflict and override one of the arguments. In a healthy personality, there is a fluid shifting from one part to another depending on what approach is needed, what is appropriate, or what is necessary under the particular circumstances.

Throughout our lives, we accumulate various experiences and responsibilities that can distance us from our inner child. We may develop coping mechanisms, societal expectations, or beliefs that suppress or neglect this part of ourselves. EP#4: Genuine Self
Ideally, the authentic self manifests during the process of individual development, commonly referred to as “individuation,” enabling individuals to differentiate their own emotions, thoughts, desires, perceptions, and behaviours as distinct from those of their family and others. The presence of a dysfunctional family can hinder the process of individuation to different extents. The formation of a “false” codependent self occurs during childhood due to the transgenerational nature of codependency.
EP#3: Conscious Detachment in Relationships
In a world that constantly urges us to define ourselves through our relationships and interactions with others, finding our own purpose can be an overwhelming challenge, especially for those struggling with codependency. Conscious Detachment is a powerful tool for individuals on a quest to break free from codependency and discover their unique purpose. By unraveling the threads of codependency, embracing their own selves, and fostering healthy relationships, individuals can embark on a journey of self-discovery that leads to a fulfilled, purposeful life.
EP#2: Repetition Compulsion
We repeat traumatic experiences in an unconscious attempt to gain mastery over them. If you felt rejected, unloved, or powerless as a child, you may recreate similar experiences and relationships in an unconscious effort to heal yourself by gaining the acceptance or love of another person or by regaining a sense of control.We tend to choose partners and friends who treat us similarly to how our parents did, and we continue to play our roles as we always have, thereby recreating the same outcome. This is Repetiton Compulsion.
EP#1: Free From Codependency
I have always been open with my struggles around codependency. I have tried to use my journey as an inspiration for others who find themselves in the same situation, fearing that void of being alone or facing major decisions in their lives, some of which are imposed on them. While many academics, psychiatrists and indeed therapists, doubt its existence, I am living proof that it can have a major effect on a life filled with external focus.
