People with wounded self-esteem often have a collection of childhood memories that seem to confirm or even prove that they are bad or unworthy. However, they can rarely recall balancing experiences that proved the opposite. Worse still, we often link all of these experiences together and when triggered they all come flooding out at once. Changing how you relate to childhood experiences is a key step to improving self-esteem. This exercises calls for recalling memories and moments where you felt valued, successful and loved. It might be difficult to do if you have been focused on the negative or had a difficult childhood but look deep and they will be there. Please recall these memories by era and think about relationships with parents, teachers, peers, friends, etc;
Four to six years old
Seven to ten years
Eleven to fifteen years
Sixteen to twenty years
Once finished, document anything significant that came up. What does it tell you about yourself? What can these realisations tell you about your worth?
